Although production of the L-159 was suspended in 2003, in 2017, Aero Vodochody restarted the production line when it saw an opportunity for the L-159 in the export market. With an estimated cost of about $9.5 million for a light fighter, the L-159 is considered to be suitable for countries with limited defense budgets.
Many Iraqi pilots began their careers in the L-29 Delfín and L-39 Albatros aircraft. The L-159 Alca light combat and training aircraft was designed to perform a variety of combat missions and aerial reconnaissance. The new L-39NG jet trainer, the flagship product of Czech aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody, is the successor to the L-39 Albatros.

Mnohými zprvu podceňovaný stroj si do dnešních dnů vydobyl pevné místo nejen na českém nebi. Pro české letce však především představuje pomyslný most mezi někdejší východní a západní technikou.
